The resurrection ceremony takes place late at night outside the bandstand in the upper part of Piazza Spinada, presided over by the bishop and attended by all the important people of the city, many bands and thousands of people. The spacious square is packed with people, palaces, fortresses and ancient buildings make up the unique atmosphere of Corfu, and when the bishop chanting “Rise of Christ”, hundreds of exciting firework explosions will be unparalleled the experience of forgetting.
The night continues a with a soup that has a special name called “tsilichourda”, plenty of wine, Easter cakes called “Fogatsa” or “doves” with all the members of the families and many friends until the morning.
Τhe classic lamb on the spit is not included in the original customs and traditions of Corfu, where the tradition for Easter lunch is egg and lemon soup (avgolemono) with 2-3 kinds of meat, they used to do it on Easter 1st and leave for the second day the lamb bbq, but this has changed in recent years and now everyone roasts lamb on a large skewer, usually accompanied by kokoretsi on a smaller skewer below. This is the day(or the day before) that people crunch their red eggs in a fun but also competitive atmosphere .
After further festivities, parades with icons and relics take place in different parts of the island almost every day from Sunday afternoon until the following Sunday.The Easter Week of the Corfu Easter officially ends with the feast-pilgrimage on Friday after Easter at the Paleokastritsa monastery, which is the first religious feast of the Corfu summer.
