Islands close to Corfu

Three islands on the edge of the Ionian Sea on the Northwest of Corfu that you probably don’t know about their existance , Othoni,Mathraki and Erikousa .They are tiny lands of silence that constitute some of the last untouched paradises of the country.

Othoni

The western-most of the Ionian islands ,the island was once used as the capital of the Diapontia Islands Municipality.It is not very big populated and still not very known by the tourism .It has two main settlements, a coastal one called Ammos, which is the port of the island, and a more mountainous one called Chorio.If you want to visit the island and you do not own a boat, in the summer there are frequent itineraries either from the port of Corfu or from the port of Agios Stefanos Avlioton.

Mathraki

Mathraki is also accessible by boat from Agios Stefanos in Corfu and receives very few tourists, even during the high season of the summer.Mathraki is also the perfect relaxing destination for those who are camping lovers . Don’t expect to find luxury hotels or restaurants just simple apartments and traditional taverns.Most of the beaches in Mathraki are rocky such as Apidies, Arvanitiko, and Fyki .The only sandy beach in Mathraki is Portello, a unique long beach on the eastern shore of the island that has crystalline  waters and is surrounded by a green natural landscape.

Erikousa

Erikousa, stands 8 nautical miles northwest of Corfu ,the island’s pathways enclosed by olive and cypress trees, that let you explore its nature along with the sweet smell of heather.It is slowly pulling ahead in the number of visitors.Yet it is far from becoming crowded.On Erikousa you can spend your day exploring the island by bike ,you can actually go all around the island by bike, diving in the sea, swimming in the several beaches of the island .On the south beach of Erikousa is Porto, the main port of the island, while there are two more small villages, Fyki in the west and Bragini in the east, a small port and a beach with shallow waters.
